Wizards vs. Mavericks prediction and odds for Tuesday, January 24 (Can Dallas cover?)

The Washington Wizards have won back-to-back games heading into Tuesday’s matchup with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday.

Both of these teams will be without their best big man in this game, as Kristaps Porzingis (ankle) is out for Washington and Christian Wood (thumb) is out for Dallas.

The Mavericks are stumbling a bit as of late, losing seven of their last 10 games, but they did pick up a big win at home over the Miami Heat on Friday before losing to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

With the Wizards trading away Rui Hachimura on Monday, the team may not be as keen on contending this season, especially if it ends up moving forward Kyle Kuzma.

Dallas is heavily favored in this game, but can it actually cover this spread?

I’ll lean with Dallas in this game, even though it’s just 8-13-1 against the spread as a home favorite this season.

The Wizards’ big advantage would have come down low if Porzingis was able to play, but if this turns into a perimeter oriented game, I like Dallas a lot more given its shooting around Doncic.

Bradley Beal has yet to really find his form since returning from injury, and now the Wizards are down a wing scorer in Hachimura.

Washington is overvalued at times this season, as it ranks 23rd in the NBA in net rating, but I actually think this is a fair spread for a Dallas team that has been much better at winning games at home than on the road.

I don’t love laying 7.5 points with the Mavs, but Washington isn’t great ATS as a road dog, going 9-10-2. I’ll trust Luka to get it done tonight.
